The Beavers have had a busy year!

Through games and crafts, activities and visitors, we have learned how to be Dementia friends, enjoyed Games nights and Lego night, learned about Road safety, Parliament Week, American Thanksgiving, had a Christingle service led by Rev Geoff Wright of Kings Road URC, learned about Chinese New Year with food tasting and Chinese crafts, had a Burns Night celebration including icing biscuits with Scottish flags, and had several cooking evenings.

We have also visited Chalkwell Beach, the Coastguard at Shoebury, the Synagogue in Finchley Road, Southend Central Train Station (very kindly hosted by Network Rail and C2C, who also gave the Beavers gifts) Central Station, Chalkwell Park and watched our Scouts perform in Southend Gangshow with Cubs and Scouts from the Group.

We have worked to gain our International Badge, Health and Fitness Badge, Experiments Badge, Cook’s Badge, Faith Badge, Safety Badge, Explore Badge, Book Reader’s Badge, Air Activities Level 1 badge, Digital Maker Level 1 Badge, and Nights Away Badges.

Beavers participated in a very successful Beaver Sleepover and Group Camp at Belchamps in May 2019 and a Christmas Sleepover at Belchamps in November 2019, and also completed the Easter Egg Hunt at Belchamps. Beavers also were very well represented at the District Renewal of Promise at Belchamps (which coincided with the Group Camp).

3 Beavers attended the Southend West District Awards Top Beavers at the Cliffs Pavilion to receive their Chief Scouts Bronze Awards from the District Commissioner and others also achieved this award but were unable to attend the presentation.

Following the national lockdown due to Covid-19, the Monday and Tuesday Beavers have merged and now meet jointly on Zoom and face-to-face where possible, and this is working very well.

Very grateful thanks go to all the leaders and young leaders who have helped in the running of the sessions, to the parents who have helped on Beaver nights and given up their time (and sleep!) to help run Sleepovers, and to all the organisations who have happily had us to visit!
